Betterway Affiliate Disclosure Guide

Thanks for partnering with us. We're glad you're here.

Before you start sharing Betterway with your audience, there's one thing we want to be upfront
about: whenever you promote our products, you need to let people know you're an affiliate. It's
required by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and it's the right thing to do for your audience.

This guide walks you through what that looks like in practice.

Why Disclosure Matters

When you earn a commission for recommending a product, your audience has the right to know. The FTC requires it because it helps people evaluate your recommendation with full context. Audiences consistently report that transparent creators earn more trust, not less.

The rule is simple: if there's a financial relationship, say so clearly and before someone clicks.

What Counts as a Disclosure

A disclosure should be:

  • Clear — use plain language your audience understands
  • Conspicuous — easy to notice, not buried or hidden
  • Close to the claim — near your recommendation, not on a separate page
  • Before the link — the reader should see the disclosure before they encounter your affiliate link

Examples by Platform

Feel free to adapt these to your own voice:

1. Blog Posts & Articles

Drop a quick note at the top of your post, before any affiliate links

"This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase through these links, I earn a small
commission at no extra cost to you."

"Disclosure: I'm a Betterway affiliate and earn a commission on purchases made through my links."

Just make sure it's visible before the reader hits your first link.

2. Instagram

Drop a quick note at the top of your post, before any affiliate links

Feed posts: Include the disclosure in your caption (not just in hashtags), and place it before or
right after your recommendation. Don't bury it at the bottom of a long caption.

"#ad I've been using @betterway bamboo toilet paper for the past few months and genuinely love it. Link in bio. It's an affiliate link, which means I earn a small commission if you buy through it."

Stories: Add a text overlay on the same slide as your recommendation or link sticker. Verbal-only
isn't enough here. It needs to be readable on screen.

"affiliate link" or "#ad" in visible text on the story frame

3. YouTube

Mention it verbally near the beginning of the video and include a note in the video description.

Verbal example:

"Quick note: Betterway is an affiliate partner of mine, so if you use the link in the description, I do earn a small commission. Just want to be upfront about that."

Description example:

"Some links in this description are affiliate links. If you purchase through them, I may earn a commission at no additional cost to you."

4. TikTok

Use the branded content toggle if available, and include a text overlay or verbal callout.

5. Email Newsletters

Add a note near the top of the email or right before your product recommendation.

"Some links in this newsletter are affiliate links, meaning I may earn a commission if you make a purchase at no cost to you."

6. Podcasts

Mention it verbally before or during the segment where you talk about Betterway.

"Betterway is an affiliate partner. I earn a commission if you buy through my link, which you'll
find in the show notes."

Common Mistakes to Watch For

  • Burying hashtags like #affiliate or #partner at the end of 30 other hashtags. Hashtags can work, but only if they're prominent. #ad at the beginning of your caption is the way to go.
  • Putting your disclosure only on a separate "disclosures" page. It needs to appear alongside the actual recommendation.
  • Assuming your audience "already knows." Disclose every time, even if you've mentioned it before.
Using vague language like "thanks to Betterway for the link." Be clear that you earn a commission.
