About the product

How much TP do I need?

Regular paper towels are made from tree fibers - what the industry calls virgin pulp. Wood fibers are long so they can be loosely woven. This makes for a fluffy, absorbent product (like a sponge) but at the expense of our forest ecosystems 😞.

Disposable bamboo paper towels are strong, absorbent, and (most importantly) a sustainable option for the majority of your household clean-up + wipe-down needs.

Think of them as an awesome alternative for your average wiping needs and the perfect sidekick to dishcloths or sponges for bigger spills.

Core features

  • FSC®certified, 100% bamboo fibers
  • 90 select-a-size sheets per roll
  • 100% bamboo core
  • 2-ply and embossed texture for extra strength
  • No inks, dyes, or scents
  • BPA-free & hypoallergenic
  • Plastic-free packaging
  • Compostable and biodegradable

Happy wiping guarantee

Our goal is to make it easy for people to switch from traditional toilet paper to tree-free TP. We understand that your bottom might be used to a mega-extra-plush paper brand made from trees and you might think you're not brave enough to switch to tree-free. BUT we believe in the quality of our product, and we believe in you!

We're confident you're gonna be happy wiping the better way, but if for any reason you find that tree-free toilet paper is not for you - just return it to us for a full refund. You have 100 days to decide.

10 Things That Make Bamboo TP Awesome!

Bamboo grows 10-20x faster than trees. It grows up to 3 feet a day and, when you cut it, it just shoots right back up - a super-renewable resource!

While forests take 30-50 years to mature after being replanted, most bamboos can be harvested every year.

Bamboo is a giant grass. As a colony plant, it's root system distributes energy efficiently to shoot up new stalks and expand its roots, which is how it spreads and grows so fast.

Although bamboo is a grass, the stalks are thick and woody. The result is a soft and silky fiber that evolved to bend rather than break, making it stronger than some steel alloys!

Bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic which means it's gentle on even the most sensitive bottoms.

Bamboo grows naturally and organically - no need for fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. Planting bamboo groves prevents soil erosion and can help degraded lands come back to life.

The bamboo used in our toilet paper is not farmed commercially. We source it from FSC® certified farms where it provides a source of income and stability for communities.

The bamboo is hand-cut and harvested using a machete eliminating the need for heavy machinery and other invasive and destructive harvesting practices.

Using bamboo (from a panda-free region) helps preserve the planet's biodiversity by protecting the thousands of species that depend on forest ecosystems for survival.

Not only does using bamboo save forests, bamboo also releases 35% more oxygen compared to a similar area of hardwood trees. We call this win-win!

Rolls are really small

Love the concept, but the rolls are REALLY small for the price point.

Glad to have found a great product.

Easy tear saves usage. Tactile feel. Food safety. All ready saved by using less. Easy storage because of size.

Not very durable

This is my first time using bamboo paper and while I love it in concept, I am not crazy about it in person. It is thinner than I am used to and not quite as absorbent which means in comparison to the brands that im accustomed to it lacks in durability. The texture reminds me of the paper towels they used to use in schools. The amount of rolls in each box makes the cost a little silly in my personal opinion.

Environmentally friendly alternative

I like the idea of the Betterway Bamboo paper towels being environmentally friendly. However, my family uses too many paper towels to make this economical for us. The rolls are smaller than expected and we just zip through a roll. They are absorbent and do a good job catching spills. Plus, you can select your own size paper towel depending on the job.

Great for cleaning, doesn’t leave a residue

These are perfect for cleaning as they do not leave any residue when wiping down glass/surfaces like you sometimes see with other brands. They are a little on the thin side so they are not the most absorbent, so they are my go to for cleaning around the house. I wouldn’t be grabbing these for large spills/cleanups though.

Not entirely bad

I was expecting these paper towels to be stiff (like the large rolls you find in schools & restaurants) but these do have some softness to them but not what you’d find in leading brands. These aren’t actually bad at all. They are thin though and are two ply (I don’t see them being two ply) which is why I deducted a star rating. They do absorb well. I’m able to wipe up spills and such but you won’t be able to scrub any surfaces because they will fall apart. I do like the select a size though for smaller jobs. Each roll is individually wrapped in paper. The quality seems good on these.

Better for environment at cost of price and absorbability

This is like a cross between Bounty paper towels and the brown napkins you get at Starbucks. It is definitely a bit different than regular paper towels, with a slightly wavy side profile that makes it seem there is more volume than there really is. It is pretty thin, and it doesn't have a particularly high absorption capacity. It quickly compresses into a tiny ball when wiping up liquids and one sheet can take up just about 1 tablespoon of liquid, leaving the surface still a bit wet. That means you go through these quicker than you'd think as you need about 3 sheets to match 1 sheet of Bounty. They also don't hold up very well to the squeeze dry and re-use test as they shred due to the thinness. Therefore, they look like Bounty sheets, but pick up water like brown napkins. Supposedly good for the environment and healthier, but the performance is not great, and you have a lot more waste.

Interesting product for the environmental-conscious, but pricey

It's hard to envision a hard, plastic-like substance like bamboo being made into paper towels, but here it is. But does it feel like, and work like, 'regular' paper towels? Um, not exactly. The towels are about like store-brand paper towels in terms of feel and absorbency. The company freely admits that they don't have the softness and sponginess of Bounty towels, but that's not their total mission. They want to deliver unwhitened, lint-free, compostable, natural brown, fragrance-free, eco friendly, sustainable, 100% bamboo, Dye-Free, unbleached, tree-free towels. The problem for many of us is the price. The rolls each contain 110 'half-towels', as opposed to 64 full sheets (128 half-sheet equivalent) in a Bounty roll. And the Bounties are 2-ply. At a price point that's already about 75% higher than the Bounty, that difference becomes even greater when you take into account the towel count and lesser effectiveness of the bamboo ones. And while there are bamboo towels on the market that are re-usable, these are single-use, throw-away ones. And wouldn't you want to toss them in your recycle bin after use?The bottom line is that you buy these towels because you want to do your part to save the planet, and not because of the price. For that you give up a little in terms of absorbency and overall utility value, but everyone has their own value system and has to decide where to put their money.Because of the cost and lesser effectiveness of these towels, I have to deduct a star.

Very good absorption

Very strong & absorbent! I like that one side is rougher, for a little scrubby action. And, of course, there's the beautiful feeling that I'm not using a small chunk of a 15-year old tree to wipe clean the stovetop, but instead, a grass that grows back over and over.

Overall soft and the ones I keep after drying freshly washed hands hold up for later to use on a spill. That said they soak up water very quickly so for gross messes that a swedish towel or a sponge should not be used I feel like I need to use more than lets say a kirkland brand. At least these paper towels are honest about how they are made and again no issues with my family’s sensitivities. I left off one star only because I wish there was double if not at least 50% more sheets on the roll.

Hi Erin! Thank you for your detailed feedback, and we appreciate your suggestion. Thanks for choosing Betterway!

I have subscribed to these bamboo paper towels for almost 3 years now. The texture is slightly more stiff than regular paper towels, making it perfect for cleanup and cleaning mirrors and windows. One roll lasts much longer than any paper variety. I LOVE that they are more ecological as well. When we cut down a tree, the tree is gone. Bamboo grows up to 5”/day and the plant continues to grow after it is cut.

More absorbent than I thought, stronger than I thought, and I’ve kind of gotten used to the color not being bleached out. I’m glad I found an alternative to chemically treated paper towels. I also use the toilet paper, now if you could just come out with a tissue, I would be set!

Thrilled to hear the paper towels held up better than expected. That's exactly what we were going for. And tissues...noted. You're not the first to ask. And we're working on them now!

I was really surprised when the paper towel was actually strong enough to wipe down a few things without ripping to shreds. A competitor’s brand I bought at the grocery store was pitiful at best. I love having this product on auto ship also, and you get used to the natural brown color😊

Hi Chilon! We're delighted to hear our paper towels proved more durable than other brands you've tried. Thanks for being a loyal subscriber.

We've been using their toilet paper and paper towels for several years now. We use to use Costco's version. The quality is significantly better, no chemicals used and works excellent with our aerobic septic system. We use less than what we used with Costco and we have it shipped according to our schedule. They always give you the heads up a few days before it ships in the event we need to reschedule or pause our subscription. The company's customer service is the BEST ever. Always putting the customer first and treating us like businesses should treat their customers. Even during the toilet paper crisis, this company did not have a crisis.

Betterway is not publicly traded and a small privately held company. It's a small business that sells direct to the consumer with free shipping. We support small businesses and want to keep them in business vs those that are publicly traded and are being taken over by businesses that want to manipulate the company. If they take over enough businesses they limit consumer choices by eventually closing down companies. Beware......Keep small businesses thriving, they care about us, Big businesses want to limit our choices and control the market so they can charge outrageous prices once they remove the competition. They have been doing this for many many many years now. Pay attention to the companies that are publicly traded and who has the vested interest in them, you will be shocked at the same people owning them. Support Betterway, they care about us and provide quality products.

Love the texture and absorbability per suqare inch. N more twinge of gilt for using a paper product. Thanks Betterway, for delivering so I do not have to shop and carry them to our 3-people household.

The toilet paper is not as soft as I hoped for but good. The amount of paper towels per roll is pretty slim... but overall for both I'm glad to be using something nontoxic and positive for the environment!
